The inaugural ceremony of National Science Day commenced with a warm welcome to esteemed guests, faculty, and participants. The event began with student registrations for the science exhibition, followed by the arrival of guests at 09:45 AM.
The formal proceedings started at 10:00 AM. The celebration was uniquely marked by the symbolic watering of a sapling, signifying growth and sustainability, followed by a soulful invocation song that created an auspicious atmosphere. The ceremony also featured a Video Tribute to Surana Educational Institutions (SEI), reflecting on their significant contributions to education and research excellence.








As part of NAAC Criteria 1.3.1 – Cross-Cutting Issues, the Department of PG Chemistry organized an environmental awareness and tree plantation activity involving M.Sc. I & III Semester students. The initiative aimed to address environmental degradation and pollution by translating theoretical knowledge into practical action.
Our postgraduate students visited the campus and actively participated in preparing the land and planting saplings. They guided and motivated younger school students, conducting an awareness session focused on environmental cleanliness, greenery, air quality, and sustainable living. This meaningful activity emphasized the vital role educational institutions play in maintaining ecological balance.

To bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications, the Department of PG Studies in Chemistry organized an industrial visit to the CSIR - Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru. This visit provided M.Sc. students with first-hand exposure to industrial environments and advanced technologies.
A group of 17 students (I Year and Final Year) explored various aspects of food chemistry, analytical instrumentation, and research methodologies. Guided by Dr. Anil Kumar K and faculty members, the visit aimed to enrich the students' understanding of quality control and real-time analytical practices within a premier research institute.









The Postgraduate Chemistry Department organized the interdepartmental innovation showcase, "WASTE TO WEALTH IDEAS EXPO-2025," to promote sustainability and environmental consciousness. Students from B.Sc., BCA, BBA, and M.Sc. formed interdisciplinary teams to showcase creative solutions transforming discarded materials into valuable resources.
The event featured 45 students participating across three categories: Short Talk, Poster Presentation, and Slide Presentation. Under the visionary leadership of HOD Dr. Naveen Kumar T, students presented innovative prototypes and models. The session was judged by Dr. Harish (CEO, Surana College) and Dr. Naveen Kumar T, who awarded Certificates of Appreciation for the best presentations in each category, emphasizing the role of green initiatives in academic life.








M.Sc. Chemistry students from Surana College actively participated in Biotechon ’25, an inter-college event organized by the School of Basic and Applied Sciences, Dayananda Sagar University. The event featured high-stakes academic competitions including Ideathon, Oral Presentations, Crime Scene Investigation, and scientific quizzes.
Our students showcased exceptional academic potential and creative thinking, delivering impressive oral presentations that merged complex chemistry concepts with innovative real-world applications. We are proud to announce that our students won cash prizes and earned certificates, gaining valuable interdisciplinary exposure and recognition among peers from various prestigious institutions.









An insightful industrial visit to Stovekraft Limited, an ISO 9001:2008 certified company, was organized for the 4th-semester students. As India's largest kitchen and home appliances manufacturer, Stovekraft provided students with a firsthand look at large-scale manufacturing excellence and technological advancements.
During the visit, students explored the innovative processes that have transformed kitchen experiences across the country. The exposure to real-world industrial operations, quality control standards, and automated production lines proved invaluable in bridging the gap between classroom theory and practical industry application.








As part of the academic curriculum, students from the PG Department of Chemistry and M.Com visited Desiri Naturals Pvt. Ltd. (Plant-2). The visit focused on the Bull-Driven Ghana Unit, a traditional oil extraction process that emphasizes the production of chemical-free food products and sustainable living practices.
Guided by Mr. Yogesh, students observed the intricate details of traditional oil pressing and how ancient techniques are being integrated into modern health-conscious markets. This educational visit provided a unique perspective on sustainable entrepreneurship and the importance of preserving traditional knowledge in the food processing industry.






CHEMSPIRE was a vibrant interdepartmental open-day event organized by Postgraduate (PG) students to inspire Undergraduate (UG) and Pre-University (PU) students. Held at the M.Sc. Chemistry Lab, the event aimed to foster a deep-seated love for chemistry and promote meaningful collaboration across different academic departments.
The event was a massive success, attracting over 200 enthusiastic participants from various educational backgrounds. Through live demonstrations and interactive displays, the PG students successfully showcased the wonders of chemical sciences, encouraging young minds to pursue excellence in research and innovation.











The PG Chemistry Department organized the "ChemWaste to ChemWealth" initiative to promote eco-friendly practices and environmental responsibility. Students collected waste paper from various departments across the campus and utilized simple scientific techniques to transform it into useful, biodegradable products.
By processing the collected waste into slurry and gum paste, students created handmade paper covers which were then distributed to local merchants and street vendors in the nearby market. This project served as a powerful platform for social responsibility, demonstrating how chemistry can provide practical, small-scale scientific solutions to community waste management challenges while fostering teamwork and creativity.







The Department of PG Chemistry organized a comprehensive two-day industrial tour covering Grasim Industry (Karwar), Sri Sai Chemicals (Udupi), and West Coast Paper Mill (Dandeli). The visit provided 21 students with firsthand exposure to large-scale chemical manufacturing and paper production.
Students observed the production of caustic soda and chlorine derivatives at Grasim, agricultural chemicals at Sri Sai, and the complete pulp-to-paper process at West Coast Paper Mill. The tour emphasized sustainability, industrial safety protocols, and technical innovation, successfully bridging the gap between theoretical chemistry and real-world industrial applications.
