Academic Ethos
Mental Health is the resource that the modern world is trying to acquire and reserve. There is an increased need for mental health professionals who can help and lead organizations and policy making bodies in enhancing mental health. The role of a psychologist has an added value in this context. Accordingly, the department is convinced that the programs offered should equip a student in meeting the demands of the day.
The department follows the principle of Outcome-driven Training (Job oriented approach) as a pedagogical line of action. Students will experience real-time work-based learning. The teaching-learning experience is geared to provide a strong foundation in the theoretical understanding of the essential concepts with equal and effective exposure to the profession that they aspire. This ensures world-class quality learning and preparedness for jobs after the completion of the course.
In the department, every student will be treated as an adult learner. This implies that students shall take complete ownership of their learning. The entire academic ambiance in the department is structured towards student-centric learning. Students are encouraged to approach their learning experiences with optimism, openness, and responsibility. There are certain factors that are defined and placed on record so that it helps everyone to follow them unambiguously.
This handbook provides much of the information needed during the course. This could be the first reference and guide for some common queries and concerns. Updates and additional information will be provided as and when necessary. The department will consult the student body while arriving at any decisions. Following are certain guidelines to help in achieving the same.

ANDRAGOGY
The department emphasizes outcome-driven training as the pedagogy or method of teaching consisting of both synchronous and asynchronous approaches. The training is more focused on the learner, their abilities, skills and interests. In the five working days, two days shall be allotted for asynchronous learning and three days shall be for synchronous learning. The commonly used synchronous learning occurs in real time with the teacher, whereas the asynchronous learning occurs with the help of prepared resources, without a real time teacher led interaction. Asynchronous learning provides a student more time to reflect on their course topic and to enable them to critically assess various applications of their learning. Flipped classrooms with internship, community activities, extensions, outbound training, or projects are implemented to provide real life experiences and to equip students to function effectively as a professional.
