BSC Biotech Course overview

A Bachelor's degree in pure sciences is the minimum requirement for most careers in this field. The advantage of this course is that a student is not just limited to careers in one subject because of the triple major combination which gives a good knowledge in three different subjects. There are many employers, representing many different sectors of industries who are interested in the excellent observational, analytical, problem solving skills and strong subject knowledge in students' of this background.

Problem-solving is a key element for a successful enterprise and the students' of Mathematics, Physics are welcomed in industry, business and commerce for their analytical ability and systematic, logical approach to unravelling complex issues. Graduates are highly regarded in many areas of industry, the civil service and other institutions. Students will be equipped with greater knowledge of a research working environment and experience of research techniques in your chosen subject.

Available Combinations

BSc – CBBT (Chemistry, Botany, and Biotechnology) The BSc course with this combination aims at developing young talent for the biotechnology industry and builds in them other strengths such that they are able to venture into allied fields too. The aim of this course is to provide man-power to the ever growing demands of the industry. Equal importance is given both to practical and theoretical methods of learning. This course will prepare students better for pursuing research and also entering into a good industry.

BSc – PMCs (Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science) The BSc course with this combination prepares the young minds for the challenging opportunities in the IT industry with a global awareness, nourished and supported by experts in the field.The course also enables the students to develop a respectable intellectual level seeking to expose the various concepts in Mathematics and Physics. It also aims at enhancing the students reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills.

Activities

  • An industrial visit was arranged to TUV Labslocated inPeenya, Bangalore which is the world number one textile material'stesting center.  Students got practical exposure to several instruments.
  • Department has conducted several like Dumb Charades and Quiz to improve the  subject knowledge of the students
  • AGuest Lecture on "SPECTROSCOPY" was organized by the Department. The speaker was Dr. Ashok Siddaramanna, Prof. at Vijaya College.

DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCES

  • Organized "International Year of Light – 2015" with title "ENLIGHTENMENT" in collaboration with "KSTA – Karnataka Science and Technology Academy" On 25TH August 2015.
  • Visited to Namdhari Farm, Bidadi, Bengaluru.
  • Visited IISC on 5th March, 2016 on "OPEN DAY" of the Institute.

DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

  • Inaugurated TERI project with title "SURANA ENERGY CLUB" collaboration with "TERI and BESCOM". On 12th August 2015,
  • Conducted inter - class competitions - Pick and Speak, Dumb charades and Model Making on 29th march 2016.

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

  • Conducted inter- class competitions - Sudoku and Dumb charades on 28th march 2016.

DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

  • Visited Lalbagh Botanical Garden on 13th August, 2015.
  • Naming of plants at MNK RAO PARK on 20th February, 2016.
  • Conducted inter - class competitions – Best out of Waste & Chart making on 29th march 2016.

DEPARTMENT OF BIO-TECHNOLOGY

  • Tech Zone
  • Conducted inter-class competitions – JAM, Treasure Hunt.
  • Participated in Lecture competition on 'Carbon as a Wonderful Element' at V V Puram College of Science by student Navya B V (III Semester).

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

  • Conducted Guest lecture on Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
  • Conducted inter-class competitions – Chart making, Model making.
  • Participated in Lecture competition on 'Conducting Polymers' at Christ College and won III prize by student Navya B V (III Semester).
